The Story Behind This Piece
Long ago, in a place where time didn’t move in straight lines, there stood a small wooden table at the edge of a forgotten room. On it rested a single chess pawn—insignificant to most, often overlooked, always moved by others. But this pawn carried something unusual. Perched upon it was a caterpillar, slow and grounded, living its life inch by inch. It had never known anything beyond the surface it crawled on. The world, to it, was limited—predictable, confined. One day, a mirror appeared. Not an ordinary mirror, but one that did not reflect what is—only what can be. The caterpillar, pausing for the first time in its restless crawl, looked into it. And there it saw… a butterfly. Not just wings, but freedom. Not just beauty, but transformation. A version of itself that felt impossible, almost unreal. The pawn beneath it, too, stood reflected—not as a mere piece in a game, but as something with presence, purpose. The caterpillar didn’t understand it. It had never flown. It didn’t know how. But the mirror didn’t lie. Days passed. The vision stayed. And slowly, something shifted—not in the mirror, but within the caterpillar. It stopped measuring life by the ground it covered and started believing in something unseen. Eventually, it wrapped itself in stillness—a cocoon. To others, it looked like the end. But it was not an end. It was a decision.
